 mtb youth rides
HAS EXPANDED for 2021
 
 

Come join the All Wheels Cycling club for a fun evening of exploring the beautiful trails at Mountianview Ski & MTB Centre, as well as around Horseshoe Valley. Starting in May these rides will run each Monday and Tuesday evenings until the end of August. All rides will be led by an experienced ride leader who knows the trails and terrain.  All abilities are welcome and riders will be placed into age/ability appropriate groups.

Who is this for 

In 2021 all wheels cycling club will be running three levels of youth cycling programs. Each level is designed using best practices and guidance from Cycling Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD)guidelines. 
Our three programs are, learn to ride, learn to race and train to race. 
​These programs represent unique stages in the LTAD.



When 

In 2021, we will have sessions run May 3rd - August 31th. Each ride will begin at 6:30 pm and return by 7:45 pm. 

What to bring 

Your youth rider, their properly fitting helmet and a properly fitting bicycle in good working order. Bikes equipped with two hand brakes are strongly recommended. Be sure to visit our friends at the Crank And Sprocket in Orillia for a helmet and bike check before the first nights ride. 

cost 

Athletes and riders may sign up for one evening or two evenings i.e. A + B or just individually.  

Program fees – OCA insurance is required for all programs $40/season paid only once per rider per year.

Learn to Ride – This program is a non-competitive program focused on having fun on bikes while learning basic cycling skills in a safe environment. Riders in this program are usually between the ages of 6-10 however older riders are always welcome and encouraged to join. 
Learn to Race – Young riders who wish to take their love of riding to the racecourse will benefit from this program focuses on building their riding and racing skills under the guidance of certified and experienced cycling coaches. Primarily a Mountain bike program, riders will be introduced to road cycling and cyclocross. Riding fast with friends and becoming highly skilled rides is the main outcome goal of this program.  Riders in this program are usually between the ages of 10 to 16. 
Train to Race* – Athletes who love to race and wish to develop their talents through more structured training will benefit from our expert NCCP certified cycling coaches in this program. Athletes in this program are usually between 16- 18 years old and are highly motivated to improve their performance. In addition to regular coached training sessions athletes will receive age and developmentally appropriate training plans to complete on their own while being monitored by the coach. 
*Athletes in Train to Race and Learn to Race may be grouped together at times  depending on group numbers and ability levels for skills sessions.
